Lowestoft

The popular traditional seaside town and resort of Lowestoft in Suffolk proudly occupies the most easterly point in the United Kingdom and is the first place to welcome a new day and see the the sun rise.

Lowestoft is ideally situated for exploring both Norfolk and Suffolk and with good road and rail connections, a family ‘best day out’ is never far away. The town boasts safe sandy beaches alongside a variety of accommodation options, ranging from hotels, apartments, holiday camps and holiday rentals to suit all budgets.

The town has a rich social and maritime history and much of this can be observed by taking a walk around the streets and the harbour, or visiting the local museum. Various family friendly attractions can be found in the town and along the seafront, including the The Marina Theatre which offers a variety of family entertainment throughout the year and its ever popular Panto over the festive season. There are plenty of café’s, tea rooms and restaurants along the promenade to choose from and if shopping is for you, then look no further than the centre of the town.

A short drive to the north of Lowestoft is Pleasurewood Hills, the biggest theme park in the East of England with live shows and rides galore. Three miles to the south east of Lowestoft is the premier East Anglia Transport Museum where the whole family can interact and take part in rides on trams, trolley buses and a light railway. Bressingham Gardens and Steam museum just over the county border into South Norfolk, is open all year round and also hosts family event days.

Suffolk is a beautiful historic county with lots on offer and it is well worth taking a drive further from the town to explore picture postcard villages, stunning scenic coastline, heathland and woodland, stately homes and gardens and other exciting attractions.  Along the coast and just two miles inland in Leiston, you will find the Longshop Museum, independently run and featuring agricultural and industrial machinery and steam engines. The Oasis Camel Park situated further inland from Lowestoft in Halesworth and set in 11 acres, guarantees ‘fun for everyone’ and a perfect family day out.  Stonham Barns Leisure and Retail Village situated on the A1120 east of Stowmarket in Suffolk has a variety of shops and leisure activities including fishing lakes, owl sanctuary and caravan park.

Lowestoft really does have something for everyone! With an amazing sandy beach and lots of entertainment options for all the ages, the town will soon become a family favourite.
